December Newsletter
Volume 2, Issue 8

Dear AmCham members,

The American Chamber of Commerce in Jordan would like to thank you all for making the evening of Wednesday, 30 November 2011 a great success. Our gratitude and appreciation also go to U.S. Ambassador to Jordan, H.E. Stuart E. Jones and Jordan’s Minister of Industry and Trade, H.E. Sami Gammoh for their support and insightful speeches during the dinner.

The pledges of commitment by Their Excellencies to the special US-Jordan relations and to business and trade in the Kingdom provide an impetus for us to continue to build on such ties and better serve our members. The AmCham Chairman, Mr. Mohammed Bataineh was equally optimistic, adding that despite the impressive growth in bilateral trade and investment, much work needs to be done.

AmCham will also be working to implement the recommendations made by Ambassador Jones who commended the chamber for its most recent initiative which involves convening monthly meetings between AmCham, U.S. Embassy representatives and members of specific sectors in the Jordanian business community, starting with the pharmaceutical community.

Finally, we would like to take this opportunity to thank the main sponsors of this successful event: Petra Engineering and PhRMA.

Sincerely,

The AmCham – Jordan Team

First Monthly Sector-Specific Discussion and Brainstorming Session (Pharmaceutical Sector)

AmCham would like to thank all those who for attended Tuesday (Dec 6th) morning’s roundtable discussion. We here at AmCham appreciate your time and input. The roundtable was lively and questions/comments were flying around.
Some of the topics discussed were:

- Barrier issues with Jordanian Customs for incoming goods (origin of goods)

- New FDA Pharmaceutical Laws such as "cancel chain pharmacies"

- Rules and regulation of this sector in Jordan

As the meeting was coming to an end, we all agreed that a Pharmaceutical Committee must be formed, headed by AmCham, in order to tackle all of the issues within this sector.
We will plan a meeting next month to share all this information with you and to hopefully elect the members of this committee. Once this committee is formed, we can maximize our strength and make a difference.
