Jordan-US Diversification of Program Under the FTA

"Diversification of Exports under the Jordan-US Free Trade Agreement”, or Jordan-US Exports Diversification Program, is a comprehensive program organized between The American Chamber of Commerce in Jordan and The Zarqa Chamber of Industry under the patronage of HE Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply and the U.S Ambassador to Jordan. The main objective is to raise awareness of the sector-related opportunities available under the Jordan-US Free Trade Agreement (FTA). The main aim of the program is to shed light on the full benefits of the FTA and how private sector organizations can successfully take advantage of those benefits. Numerous export opportunities for US bound goods exist for Jordanian manufacturers to support regional, interregional, and international expansion efforts. More importantly today, in consideration of the geopolitical circumstances spread across the region, causing border closures between Jordan and neighboring traditional markets, in addition to transshipping route closures used to reach international markets.

The program launched on April 26th, 2016, with the first workshop taking place immediately following the launch ceremony – geared towards the most dynamic and economically strategic manufacturing industries in Jordan. The workshop provided participants with a briefing about the program’s objectives and goals and marked the first activity carried out through the program, with presentations from Jordanian authorities such as the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Supply (MOIT), Jordan Customs Department, including representatives of the US Embassy, and United States Agency for International Development (USAID). In addition to presentations provided for by select Jordanian manufacturer representatives who have been successfully exporting to the US under the FTA for more than a decade. 

Key topics mentioned during the program’s first workshop included: the Jordan-US FTA; FTA-related export opportunities; US market entry and access information including success stories; US import opportunities; finance opportunities available through the USAID; and more.
